Holosun IRIS-GR3 — Triple-Function Green Laser and IR Illuminator Module
The Holosun IRIS-GR3 is a professional-grade, third-generation triple-function laser module integrating a Class 3R visible green laser (520 nm), a Class 1 IR aiming laser (850 nm), and a 60 mW VCSEL IR illuminator in a single Picatinny-ready housing. The IRIS-GR3 and IRIS-RD3 share identical form factors, dimensions, and weight — the difference lies in the visible laser: green (520 nm) versus red (635 nm). Green is roughly 4–6× more perceptible to the human eye at equivalent power, making the GR3 the preferred choice for positive target identification in daylight conditions and bright-sun environments.
Compared to the predecessor LS321 series, the IRIS-GR3 housing is 43% lighter and 20% lower in profile, significantly improving weapon balance and rail real estate when running lights, foregrips, or other accessories simultaneously.
Housing and Construction
The body is machined from 7075-T6 aluminum with a black hard-anodized finish, measuring 81 × 50 × 34 mm (3.2″ × 1.97″ × 1.34″) and weighing 181 g (6.4 oz). The unit is rated IPX8 for full water submersion. Vibration resistance is validated to 1000 G — sufficient for centerfire rifle calibers from 5.56 NATO to 7.62×39 mm. Mounting uses a single captive-screw Picatinny / Weaver clamp.
Laser and Illuminator System
Visible Green Laser (520 nm, Class 3R): low (1 mW, Class II) and high (5 mW, Class 3R) power levels. The 520 nm wavelength offers maximum daylight contrast for PID (positive identification) and field zeroing of the IR channel. Once zeroed on the visible green laser, the IR aiming laser is automatically aligned — no separate adjustment required.
IR Aiming Laser (850 nm, Class 1): low (0.4 mW) and high (0.7 mW) power levels. Compatible with Gen 1, Gen 2, Gen 3, and digital NV monoculars and binoculars. Co-aligned with the visible laser.
VCSEL IR Illuminator (850 nm, Class 1, 60 mW): VCSEL (Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser) technology produces a perfectly circular, artifact-free beam — no rings or hot spots common with LED-based illuminators. A top-mounted beam-width slider continuously adjusts divergence from wide flood (15 mrad) to tight spot (up to 150 mrad), operable with gloves without changing grip. Two power levels: 10 mW (low) and 60 mW (high).

Controls and Ergonomics
The center-positioned fire button on the top of the housing provides equal access for right- and left-handed operators without any grip change. Supports both momentary (press-to-activate) and constant-on (hold-to-lock) modes.
The included dual-button remote switch with Crane plug mounts on the fore-end or vertical grip. The VIS override function forces the visible green laser from the remote regardless of the mode selector position — critical for instant target identification during NV operations without fumbling through mode changes.
A red LED battery indicator warns of low charge before complete shutdown. Recessed 0.5 MOA/click adjustment turrets within ±50 MOA protect zero during transport and field handling.
Field Applications
Night operations with NV devices. Co-aligned lasers eliminate dual-zeroing procedures. The 60 mW VCSEL illuminator delivers clean, even IR flood illumination for target identification in complete darkness at close to medium distances.
Hunting at dusk and night. The adjustable illuminator switches from wide area flood (15 mrad) for general scene awareness to a focused spot (up to 150 mrad) for engaging targets at extended range — all without tools or removing hands from the weapon.
Daytime PID and training. The green laser at 5 mW provides confident daylight visibility at 100+ m. Low-power mode (1 mW, Class II) is safe for indoor range use.
