Sensor and image quality

Krypton 2 FXG50 uses an uncooled 640×480 thermal sensor with 12 µm pixel pitch and sensor NETD below 40 mK, while the overall system NETD is under 20 mK. This combination delivers high contrast and fine detail even in high humidity, fog, drizzle or when the background is warm, where less sensitive devices quickly lose structure in the image. The high‑resolution sensor maintains more usable detail when increasing the magnification on the day scope, which is critical for long‑range detection and identification.

A 50 Hz frame rate ensures smooth tracking of moving targets, whether it is driven game crossing a field or dynamic movement on a tactical course.

Optics, field of view and 2300 m detection

The FXG50 is equipped with a powerful F50 / 1.0 objective lens optimised for long‑range detection and observation. The field of view of 8.8 × 6.6 degrees (approximately 15.4 × 11.5 metres at 100 metres) gives a narrower, more “telephoto” picture suited to open terrain, field edges and long shooting lanes.

Thanks to the combination of the 50 mm f1.0 lens and the professional 12 µm sensor, the Krypton 2 FXG50 offers an extra‑long detection range. A standing 1.8 m tall target can be detected at distances up to 2300 metres in complete darkness, providing a large safety margin between the first detection and practical shooting distances. In real hunting, this allows you to see game stepping out on distant field edges early, track its movement and prepare for a clean shot at typical 100–300 m ranges.

Display and adaptive graphical interface

Inside, the Krypton 2 FXG50 is equipped with a high‑definition AMOLED display with a resolution of 1920×1080. The HD panel provides a sharp, high‑contrast image with fast response, maintaining performance even at low temperatures. This makes extended night observation less tiring and supports precise aiming through fine reticles in high‑quality day scopes.

A key new feature of the Krypton 2 series is the adaptive graphical user interface. The user can scale and reposition the device menu and status bars to suit the magnification of the day riflescope. When you change the zoom on the day optics, important indicators remain within the visible field and readable across the full recommended magnification range, which is especially valuable for the FXG50 used with higher optical magnifications.

Colour palettes

Krypton 2 FXG50 supports multiple colour palettes, including the classic White Hot and Black Hot, as well as additional colour modes designed to enhance contrast and reduce eye fatigue. White Hot is a universal choice, with hotter objects shown brighter against a darker background, while Black Hot inverts this and is often preferred for reading terrain and silhouettes. Highlight and other colour modes emphasise the hottest areas in the scene and help to speed up target detection under varying weather and background conditions.

This flexibility allows the user to choose one or two preferred palettes that best match local conditions, such as mixed woodland and fields, coastal humidity or cold continental nights.

Video recorder and internal memory

The FXG50 incorporates an integrated video recorder with photo and video resolution of 1024×768, storing files in .mp4 and .jpg formats on 16 GB of built‑in memory. This is sufficient for multiple hunting trips, training sessions or night exercises. Recorded material can be used to analyse shot placement, animal behaviour, team tactics or to document field situations.

Wireless connectivity and control

The device offers Bluetooth BLE 4.2 and dual‑band Wi‑Fi operating at 2.4 and 5 GHz (IEEE 802.11 b/g/n/ac with WPA security). Bluetooth is used primarily for communication with the included Pulsar BT remote control, which can be mounted on the forend or stock to operate the device without changing grip. Wi‑Fi connectivity allows pairing with the Stream Vision 2 app on a smartphone or tablet to stream live images, manage recordings and update firmware.

Housing, protection and environmental resistance

The housing is made from magnesium alloy, providing a combination of low weight, high stiffness and effective heat dissipation. The robust design is built to withstand recoil from high‑calibre rifles and the mechanical stress of intensive field use. The FXG50 is rated IPX7 for water protection, meaning it is fully waterproof under short‑term immersion and easily withstands heavy rain, wet snow and high humidity.

The operating temperature range from –25 to +50 °C allows use in winter conditions, cold coastal climates and hot summer nights without compromising functionality. With dimensions of 131×78×84 mm and weight of 0.45 kg without battery (0.58 kg with IPS7), the device maintains a practical balance on most hunting and tactical rifles.

Power system and operating time

Power is supplied by the IPS7 Li‑Ion battery pack with a capacity of 6400 mAh, providing up to 11 hours of operation at around 22 °C. The battery is mounted on top of the unit, improving balance and enabling quick changes even in gloves and low light. For longer missions, the FXG50 supports external power via USB Type‑C, accepting 5 V and 9 V (Power Delivery), allowing the use of power banks to extend runtime.

Mounting, compatibility and point of impact stability

The Krypton 2 FXG50 is mounted on the objective lens of a daytime riflescope using dedicated adapters with a four‑point bayonet interface. This provides secure, repeatable positioning and precise alignment of the thermal image relative to the reticle. Installation and removal are tool‑free and take only a few seconds. Once the day scope is correctly zeroed and the attachment is aligned, the FXG50 typically does not require separate zeroing as a standalone sight; repeated mounting on the same adapter maintains point of impact stability within practical hunting tolerances.

Dual‑use configuration with 3× monocular

Beyond its role as a front attachment, the Krypton 2 FXG50 can be converted into a handheld thermal monocular by attaching the Pulsar 3x20B monocular to the bayonet interface. In this configuration, the device becomes a 3× handheld thermal imager suitable for scouting, tracking wounded game, monitoring field edges or checking approaches to a camp or objective. This dual‑use design allows one thermal core to fulfil both roles—clip‑on front attachment and 3× monocular—reducing equipment weight and cost while increasing versatility in real field use.

Pulsar Krypton 2 FXG50 is available at Professional Optics, a dedicated optics and tactical gear store based in Split, Croatia. The shop focuses on original Pulsar devices, offering competitive pricing on thermal clip‑ons and fast delivery across Europe, including Croatia and other EU countries.
