Holosun IRIS-3-RD-IR Tactical Triple Module Red Laser VCSEL IR illuminator
Holosun IRIS-RD3 — Triple-Function Laser and IR Illuminator Module
The Holosun IRIS-RD3 is a third-generation tactical laser module combining a Class 3R visible red laser, a Class 1 IR aiming laser, and a 60 mW VCSEL IR illuminator in a single Picatinny-mounted unit. Compared to the predecessor LS321 series, the housing is 43% lighter and 20% lower in profile — a critical improvement for maintaining weapon balance and rail clearance when running multiple accessories. The module covers the full operational spectrum: visible laser for daylight zeroing and PID, IR channel for use with night vision devices.
Housing and Construction
The body is machined from 7075-T6 aluminum with a black hard-anodized finish. Weight is 181 g (6.4 oz) with dimensions of 81 × 50 × 34 mm (3.2″ × 1.97″ × 1.34″). Rated IPX8 for full water submersion. Vibration resistance is rated to 1000 G, suitable for centerfire rifle recoil on AR, AK, and similar platforms. Mounting is via a low-profile Picatinny clamp with a single captive screw.
Laser and Illuminator System
Visible Red Laser (635 nm, Class 3R): two power levels — 1 mW (low) and 5 mW (high). Used for daytime zeroing of the IR channel, low-light target identification, and indoor training. The 635 nm wavelength provides maximum daylight contrast.
IR Aiming Laser (850 nm, Class 1): two power levels — 0.1 mW (low) and 0.7 mW (high). Compatible with Gen 1, Gen 2, Gen 3, and digital NV monoculars and binoculars. The visible and IR lasers are co-aligned (slaved) — zeroing on the red laser automatically aligns the IR channel without separate adjustment.
VCSEL IR Illuminator (850 nm, Class 1, 60 mW): VCSEL technology generates a perfectly circular beam without additional collimating optics, delivering a cleaner illumination pattern than LED-based illuminators. A top-mounted beam adjustment slider continuously varies divergence from a wide flood (15 mrad) to a tight spot (120 mrad) — operable with gloves and without breaking the firing grip. Two power levels: 10 mW (low) and 60 mW (high).
Operating Modes
The rear rotary selector steps through four modes:
- Visible red laser only
- IR aiming laser only
- IR illuminator only
- IR laser + IR illuminator combined
Each mode has two power levels (low/high) selectable via the same rear interface.

Controls and Ergonomics
The centrally positioned top-mounted fire button is equally accessible by both hands without changing grip. It supports momentary (press-to-activate) and constant-on (hold-to-lock) operation. The rear mode and intensity selector is positioned for thumb operation and features improved tactile feedback compared to previous generations.
The included dual-button remote switch with Crane plug mounts on the fore-end or grip for distal activation without reaching the module body. The VIS override function forces the visible laser on directly from the remote, regardless of the selector mode — allowing emergency target identification during NV operations without changing settings.
Windage and elevation adjustment uses recessed 0.5 MOA/click turrets within a ±50 MOA range, protecting against unintended shifts during transport.
Field Applications
Night operations with NV devices. Co-aligned visible and IR lasers eliminate the need for dual zeroing. The 60 mW VCSEL illuminator delivers reliable scene illumination for target identification at close to medium ranges under complete darkness.
Hunting and tracking. In IR illuminator mode, the IRIS-RD3 works with digital NV monoculars for even flood illumination at short range and focused spot projection at extended distance — adjustable without tools.
Tactical training. The 1 mW low-power visible laser mode is suitable for indoor use without bystander risk. High power (5 mW) provides outdoor daylight visibility.
