Holosun LE117-IR — Single-Beam Infrared Laser Aiming Device in Grade 5 Titanium
The Holosun LE117-IR is a dedicated infrared laser aiming device operating at 830 nm, designed exclusively for use with night vision devices on rifles, carbines, and PDW platforms. The beam is invisible to the naked eye and projects a clean aiming dot visible only through NV monoculars, binoculars, and digital NV devices of all generations. Unlike the multi-function IRIS series, the LE117-IR is a single-function device — IR laser only, no visible channel, no IR illuminator — delivering a simpler, lighter, and in many EU jurisdictions less-regulated solution for passive NV aiming.
Housing and Construction
The body is precision-machined from Grade 5 titanium (Ti-6Al-4V) with a matte black anodized finish. Weight is 190 g (6.7 oz) with dimensions of 87 × 45 × 34 mm (3.43″ × 1.77″ × 1.34″). Rated IPX8 for full water submersion and validated to 1000 G vibration resistance. Rubber protective caps shield the emitter, remote connector, and battery cap from field contaminants. The front-access battery compartment opens tool-free with a knurled, rubber-secured collar.
Infrared Laser System
IR Laser (830 nm, Class 1): two selectable power levels:
- LOW: 0.1 mW — for confined spaces, high-sensitivity NV devices, and reducing IR signature in reflective environments
- HIGH: < 0.7 mW — standard field mode, provides a well-defined dot through Gen 1, Gen 2, Gen 3, and digital NV equipment at practical engagement ranges
Beam divergence is 0.6 mrad, maintaining a tight, coherent dot without visible spread at typical hunting and tactical distances. Class 1 rating under both IEC and FDA classification in both power modes covers the most permissive IR laser safety tier, simplifying import/export logistics across EU member states.
A Pulsed mode is available — activated by holding the fire button for 3+ seconds — extending battery runtime and enabling use as an IR beacon during coordinated operations.

Controls and Activation
The rear-facing selector lever has three positions: OFF / constant ON / REMOTE. The large, ribbed lever switches decisively with gloves or in sub-zero temperatures. In constant-ON mode, auto-shutoff engages after 5 minutes of inactivity to preserve battery charge.
The top-mounted fire button provides momentary activation without touching the selector.
The included Crane-plug remote cable switch mounts on the fore-end or pistol grip for momentary activation without shifting hand position. Windage and elevation turrets use recessed 0.5 MOA/click adjusters within a ±50–60 MOA travel range, requiring the included T10L key to prevent accidental zero shifts.
The QD Picatinny mount allows fast tool-free installation and removal while maintaining reliable return-to-zero across mounting cycles.
Field Applications
Night operations — primary use case. The LE117-IR functions as a passive IR aiming laser for any NV monocular or goggles. Single-function operation eliminates the risk of accidentally activating the wrong mode under stress — a concrete advantage over multi-function devices when only IR pointing is required.
Nocturnal hunting. At HIGH mode (0.7 mW), the dot is clearly visible through digital NV clip-ons (PARD, ATN, Sytong) at all practical hunting ranges. Battery life of up to 5,000 hours in LOW mode makes the unit effectively maintenance-free over multiple hunting seasons.
Tactical and duty applications. The compact LE117-IR footprint leaves rail space for a light and foregrip simultaneously. The absence of a visible laser simplifies legal compliance in jurisdictions that restrict Class 3R devices.
