Holosun LE221-RD — Co-Axial Dual Laser Aiming Device: Red + IR in Grade 5 Titanium

The Holosun LE221-RD is a professional dual-laser aiming device combining a co-axially mounted 635 nm red laser (Class 3R) and an 830 nm IR laser (Class 1) in a Grade 5 titanium (Ti-6Al-4V) housing with QD Picatinny mount. The device delivers full day-to-night targeting capability: the red laser for daylight environments, the IR channel for passive night vision operations — all from a single, compact unit with one zeroing session covering both beams simultaneously.

The LE221-RD shares its platform with the LE221-GR. The difference is the visible laser wavelength: red (635 nm) versus green (520 nm). Red is the preferred choice for indoor training facilities, CQB environments, and laser training systems, where ambient light levels are controlled and the 635 nm wavelength provides sufficient contrast without requiring the higher-cost green diode.

Housing and Construction

The rear rotary selector steps through four modes plus OFF:

The selector has clearly defined tactile detents for gloved operation. The top-mounted FIRE button delivers momentary activation in the currently selected mode; a double-press with hold locks constant-on. The included Crane-plug remote cable switch mounts on the fore-end or pistol grip for momentary activation without shifting hand position. Windage and elevation are adjusted via recessed 0.5 MOA/click turrets using the included T10L key — the ±60 MOA travel range is wider than many comparable devices, providing more flexibility on non-standard mounting positions.

Field Applications

CQB and close-range operations. Red LOW (< 1 mW) enables fast aiming in confined spaces without over-illuminating the environment. Switching to IR HIGH for NV operations takes one selector click without changing grip.

Nocturnal hunting. The IR channel paired with digital NV clip-ons delivers a precise aiming dot invisible to unaugmented observers. Battery life of up to 5,000 hours makes the unit effectively maintenance-free across entire hunting seasons.

Training and IPSC. Red 635 nm is the native standard for SIRT, LASR, and Mantis X training systems. LOW mode reduces current draw during high-volume training sessions and significantly extends battery life.
