Holosun LS221R — Co-Axial Dual Laser Red + IR in 7075-T6 Aluminum

The Holosun LS221R is a compact dual-laser aiming device combining co-axially mounted 635 nm red laser (Class IIIa) and 830 nm IR laser (Class 2M) in a 7075-T6 aluminum housing with an integrated QD Picatinny mount. It is the aluminum-body counterpart to the titanium LE221-RD — the same laser performance and zeroing mechanics at a lower weight and more accessible price. The LS221R is built for carbines, PDW platforms, and submachine guns where a complete day-and-night dual-laser system is needed without the titanium chassis premium.

Co-axial emitter placement delivers a single zeroing session: zero the red laser in daylight and the IR channel is simultaneously aligned — no separate NV zeroing required.

Housing and Construction

Machined from 7075-T6 aluminum with a matte black MAO anodized finish. Weight is 190–191 g (6.7 oz) with dimensions of 86–87 × 48–49 × 38–39 mm (3.4″ × 1.9″ × 1.5″). Rated IP67 (submersion to 5 m, 30 minutes) with 1000 G vibration resistance. Working temperature range is −40°C to +51°C, storage −40°C to +65°C. The QD mount is integrated into the housing base — tool-free installation on Picatinny / Weaver with consistent return-to-zero across mounting cycles.

Laser System: Red + IR, Co-Axially Mounted

Red Laser (635 nm, Class IIIa):

• HIGH: < 5 mW (Class IIIa) — outdoor targeting in moderate to low ambient light

Controls and Operation

The rear rotary selector steps through four modes plus OFF:

1. Red LOW (< 1 mW, Class II)
2. Red HIGH (< 5 mW, Class IIIa)
3. IR LOW (0.3 mW)
4. IR HIGH (< 0.7 mW)

Tactile selector detents operate reliably with gloves. The FIRE button on the housing delivers momentary activation on single press; double-press with hold locks constant-on. An IR-active LED indicator on the control panel alerts the operator when the unit is running in the invisible IR spectrum. The included Crane-plug tape/gel-pad remote cable switch mounts on the fore-end via Velcro panel for momentary activation without grip changes. Recessed 0.5 MOA/click turrets within ±60 MOA use the included T10L key and correct both channels simultaneously via the co-axial mechanism.

LS221R vs LE221-RD

The LS221R delivers identical laser performance to the LE221-RD for users who do not require the titanium chassis or full IPX8 submersion rating.

Field Applications

CQB and close quarters. Red LOW (< 1 mW) enables fast, sight-free aiming in confined spaces. Transitioning to IR HIGH for NV operations takes a single selector click without grip adjustment.

Nocturnal hunting. IR HIGH (0.7 mW) projects a defined dot through digital NV clip-ons at hunting distances. A 5,000-hour battery life eliminates battery changes across multiple seasons of intermittent use.

Training and IPSC. Red 635 nm is the standard wavelength for SIRT, LASR, and Mantis X dry-fire and live-fire training systems. LOW mode significantly extends battery life during high-volume sessions.

SMG and PDW platforms. The 86–87 × 48–49 × 38–39 mm form factor fits MP5, Scorpion EVO, B&T APC, and CZ Bren fore-ends without conflicting with lights or grips.
